The Duplicate Finder App Reviews

Finally, a duplicate file utility with mass deletion capability. Other programs wish to have you review each instance of duplication before manual deletion of each set of duplicates. “The Duplicate Finder” allows mass marking of duplicates, review of all the chosen files about to be deleted, and then allows mass deletion to the trash. All automatic. This saved us likely a week of grainy detail in dealing with a mass dupicaton issue. Bravo.

So far I like this. I come from PC world and have used many other apps like this. I have somewhat simple needs and just want to keep my word doc files to clog up my system. Many of them just find same name file which is sort of useless in many cases. This one uses names and size and other markers which I find more useful. I’m not going to give it 5 stars right now as I want to use it a bit and see if the love affair stays. But so far I’m happy.

I’m not tech savvy, and I thought this app would be helpful. Nope! I tried to drag my pictures folder to the app and my whole picture folder was deleted off my computer! The pictures werent deleted (thank GOD!) but now I just have TEN THOUSAND photos that arent in a folder. And there are too many for me to just select all and create a folder!!!!

I’ve used The Duplicate Finder successfully in the past to find duplicates in my iPhoto Library. Today it failed to find a duplicate I purposely created in my Photos Library. I got a message saying “…Excluded folders and extensions are always omitted from the scanning process.” Is Photos an “excluded folder?

I tried to use it once and it froze the app and the entire computer. Quitting the app did’nt work so I tried to restart but that wouldn’t work either so I had to “force quit” the app in able to get rid of it. This is the worst app I have ever tried to use. Some apps don’t work well or don’t do what they advertise but I have never found one that freezes the entire computer.

It’s incredibly fast and does what it says. It’s amazing that it’s FREE right now! I’m installing this in both of my computers. I was able to free up a lot of space so far. Thanks Duplicate Finder :)

The speed and accuracy of The Duplicate Finder is amazing. I wasnt expecting them to find photos that had been renamed that was a big WOW. OF course I chose tosearch thru my photos and was happy that I could select which duplicates were to be trashed. The Christmas Bonus was the price, FREE.

As soon as I installed this, I started getting adware from MyBackupPC.com when I used Chrome, and it stopped when I uninstalled.

Works pretty good. The interface is very similar to Gemini and dup finding result is absolutely the same. I did a test creating duplicates (so I exactly know what needs to be cleaned) and the app did a good job. However I take 1 star because it leaves some duplicates undiscovered. DupeGury PE, on the other hand, detects all of the dups and removes them, making it the best free alternative. However the dupeGuru interface is where it falls short.

In just a few minutes I eliminated 3.2 gigabytes of duplicate music files. My computer memory was out of control — but now it’s a lot better.

I was very exciting as i did download this app. It is easy and the interface looks very user friendly. The app works but not perfect. Sometimes, it does not clean up all duplicates. It crashes sometimes and sometimes you need to restart your mac.

just downloaded it last night and tried it for the first tonight. used it on my external drive and it worked perfectly as advertised. Dumped about 5gb of dupe music files. going to try it on another external drive with thousands of pictures on it and I know there are two three copies of some of those, and I can hardly wait to try it on those. WORKS GREAT!! Not sure why it seems like everytime I try to clean folders up I end up creating duplicates….it drives me crazy, but now I’m getting back with the duplicate app…..highly recommend.

My laptop which has 500 gb was completely full. I only had 1.56 gb free, in desperation I downloaded this and a few other apps. It found over 5,000 duplicates and freed over 80 gb for me. I am beyond happy right now. Gives me a bit of time before I upgrade my laptop. THANKS SO MUCH, works very quick and theres a option to select all duplicates which makes it so time efficient.

I wish there was a way to select which folder should be considered the originals when auto selecting duplicates to delete. My specific use case is cleaning up old picture archives. I am relocating my oiginals form my Active Aperture library into a folder. I then do the same for an older library I want to de-dupe. The ideal behavior would be that I am able to select the folder containing the orginals of my actively used Aperture library. Once the old folder of orginals is deduped I would be left with pictures not contained in my active library that I could then import. Does this make sense? How do I accomplish this? Also, how about a progress bar? Now that they have made this app free I guess they will only make future enhacements as in-app purchases.

I opened it right after it’s been downloaded, and after it scaned only one folder, it frozed until now. I can’t force quit it, and I can’t deep delete it using other App, so I can’t even restart the laptop. PLEASE someone tells me how to solve the problem. Thank you.
